Journal entry by Elsie Nemeth —
Here’s an update directly from Elsie/Mimi herself!!
What a week I have had:
Monday’s visit to Dr. Mamczak’s office gave me the go-ahead to put weight on my right foot. All my incisions looked good, and the long row of staples was removed with no pain. I have an appointment on Dec. 23 for X-rays and the removal of my right hand cast. I am now walking not only with the walker, but also with a cane; it has been thrilling to stand and walk! I cried the first time because I was overwhelmed with joy. Even now every time I walk I know the blessings I have been given! 🙏
On Wednesday, Dr. Steinberg’s PA removed a packing on my back and said everything looked great. I then had X-rays taken and am now waiting to hear the results. She told me that the titanium ribs would last me forever. She prescribed a pain cream medication for me to try. She also said that I only need another appointment if there is a problem. Thumbs up here. 👍
I have been walking everywhere: I am classified as independent in my room! PT and OT every day have added more strength to my muscles and bones than I ever could have imagined. I practice every day in my room, at least two or three times each. I have had no pain thus far.
I was taken off all narcotics on Tuesday night at 6:00, which was actually miscommunication by the doctor here. This, however; was a gift because I was able to go all night without intense pain- the pain was tolerable! Now I am just on Tylenol and the cream medication and this is working. Yay!!! I need to begin planning for my discharge, which will be either Dec. 23 or 24. I have a house assessment next Tuesday. The PT an OT representatives will go with Joe and I out to my house. This excursion will be my PT for the day.
A lot has happened and I am so smiling. I am tired around 7 each night and have been in bed early all week. I have been able to lay on my back and really rest- another Yay!!! All the prayers and well wishes have been heard. My bottom drawer is full of cards, my room has had many flowers and I have had multiple visitors every day. The other day 4 friends were in PT with me, and even came back to my room. Three more visitors followed after this. I have been surrounded by the love of God and good friends!!! All is well!!!

Here’s to seeing if the new bionic Elsie is the same (or perhaps BETTER) than the Elsie before Nov. 12 🤗
