Many hearts are breaking at Ellie's passing now, but her children wish for everyone to know she was calm, clear, loving as ever and that her life was rich and that her legacy of caring, love and activism will endure and grow! Was it Joe Hill who said "Don't mourn, organize!"? Or in the words of Woody Guthrie: "Well this world might be just one big soul, it looks that way to me. Wherever you look in the day or the night, that's where I'm gonna be! Wherever children are hungry and cry, wherever people ain't free, wherever working people are fighting for their rights, that's where I'm gonna be!" Ellie and Gene learned to dance a mighty fine Lindy when they were young together. Some might call her a fighter for justice, and she certainly never gave up this struggle. But enough already with fighters and warriors. MLK wished to be remembered as a drum major for justice. We will always remember Ellie as a beautiful, cool dancer for love and peace. We are deeply thankful for the love and support we have felt from her community of friends.
