Journal entry by Ellen Siegel

Dear all,

It has taken a long time but my skin is definitely healing . . . Not all the way back to normal yet but I’m no longer in pain. Good, right? And my hair has grown to what I’m told is a very chic little white cap, about 1/2” long. I’ve been “coming out” au naturel to my patients who generally like it, although I’d say their overall preference remains the purple wig.

I’m heading in to Dana Farber shortly for my every-three-weeks Herceptin infusion, as well as blood work to see how my immune system is holding up. I’ve been functioning on the assumption I’m still immunocompromised, which means that other than necessary hospital trips I have been nowhere at all, because of the coronavirus. We’ll see if I can ease up a little bit. I SO miss being with my kids and my beautiful little grandson.

Don got good news yesterday that golf courses in Massachusetts can open up. David and friends are still at our house at the Cape but they are planning to relocate (to North Carolina, of all places), and we will head to the Cape for Memorial Day weekend. No bets on whether the work at our house there will be done by then (more than two years since it was started).

Hard to know when or if we will ever “get back to normal” . . . Wishing everyone comfort and safety in these difficult times.
