Newest Update

Journal entry by Derek Caruso

It has been almost three months since Elle has earned her wings. Over the past few months we have had some time to reflect on Elle’s journey. We have thought about all of the ups and the downs, and how much our little girl has touched so many lives. However, our lives are very different now. Our once busy home, which was filled with family and friends providing love and support, has now fallen silent. We have a hole in our hearts now that can never be filled. Watching Ava and Mason playing without Elle is hard to get used to. It always feel like someone is missing. One thing we had to do during Elle’s journey was constantly adapt to a new normal, something we are continuing to try and do after she is gone. A normal that will never actually become normal. There is so much we miss about Elle, that at any moment, it can just completely overcome us.

The pain we are experiencing is unlike anything you could ever imagine. A pain we pray that none of you ever have to go through in your lifetime. It’s a pain that continues to get harder and harder as time goes on. We are told that things will get better with time, but I just can’t imagine that being the case. Elle made our lives better. She was her own unique little girl who brought so much joy to everyone she came in contact with.

Over the past few months as we slowly get back in to the world, we have been hearing from everyone how much Elle has changed their own lives. Parents are hugging their children tighter than ever before, families spending much more quality time with each other, and their outlook on the world has changed after hearing all the good that has come from Elle’s difficult journey.

The countless lives Elle touched and the inspiration she showed through her battle, she has left her mark on this world that we will never forget. What Elle’s journey taught us is that life can change very quickly, without a moment’s notice. She has inspired us to continue her legacy of inspiration and giving, we have decided to start Elle’s Angels Foundation in honor of our daughter.

We often go through life wondering “what is our purpose in life”. What did God put us on this Earth to do? What Elle has shown us is what our mission in life is. To help find a cure for DIPG and to help those families in need. Tragedy in life is not death, the greatest tragedy in life, is life without a purpose. Give your pain a purpose, become an angel, Elle’s Angels.

We are officially launching our website today, which can be found at www.ellesangelsfoundation.org
