Elin’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, offers of help and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you!

On August 28th  I learned I have Throat Cancer and that it has spread to the lymph glands in my neck and tongue. It's stage 3. I'm getting ready to undergo chemotherapy and radiation for the next 9 weeks, starting the 18th of September. It's going to be the toughest thing I've ever done. Doctor's have warned me that I'm going to lose my voice during the treatment and that I will be losing the ability to swallow food and need to be on a stomach tube to feed myself.  I need your help. Peter and I do not have a family support system in this area. We have neighbors and friends and we hope you can lend us a hand. As a cinematographer, Peter's work is always in flux.  He is gone when he has work and during my treatment is the busiest time of the year for him. We have two small children, Merrick and CarolAnwen. I'm the mothership and take care of the family but I could use some help right now.

Great News!

Today, I found out that my test results from the PET scan and MRI from last week have shown that the cancer is GONE!

I’m in shell shock. I don’t really believe it but my Head & Neck Surgeon who has always been very blunt; never one to mince words said that the cancer treatment worked and that it is gone. I needed to hear it from her.  Right now, I feel overwhelmed and tired from the appointment. I am happy but at the same time I’m afraid that the cancer is still lurking in the darkness waiting to come out. I hear that that’s normal for cancer patients who are recovering.

Right now, I need to focus on being present and positive. To not worry about the future but to enjoy the now and the time I’ve been given to be with my family and friends.

My sincere gratitude for my family, friends, neighbors and the strangers I’ve met along the way who have helped me get through this tough journey with their kindness and love. I have survived and the prayers, well wishes, and positive affirmations I received got me through this.

I thank you all.
