Journal entry by Elijah + Brooke Loden —
Hello!!! Today, Judah has had a Gtube placement to help him with moving further in the process of oral feeds. This will be more of a stable method of feeding Judah and easier on him so that he can learn to eat by mouth better.
We anticipate this tube being in place for about a year at most, but we will see what the Lords timing is. In the mean time we will be getting therapy and working toward helping his oral development.
During the sedated procedure we scheduled an ABR (automated brain response) which would detect how well Judah can hear. He failed 3 hearing tests earlier on and needed to be studied further to check and see if he has hearing loss.
Results came back and he can hear perfectly fine!! Praise Jesus. No follow up needs to happen on this end!
We should be out of the hospital by Friday and learning this new method of feeding while also working even more intently during his feeds to develop more of an oral response and will slowly be introducing breast milk to him as he learns to suck and swallow more consistently.
Please be praying for a swift recovery, and swift progress with learning to eat by mouth. We would LOVE to be officially tube free as soon as possible! But we are so very thankful for there alternative methods of eating because of his circumstances.
Please also pray for endurance and patience for me (Brooke) and Elijah as we navigate how to teach Judah to eat by mouth.
We love y’all so much & are so thankful for each of you.
