Journal entry by Emily Cruz —
A few weeks ago Elian completed his chemo treatments and we were completely and fully loved on by our family and friends! We had a full day including his last treatment scan - which came out clear with no signs of cancer. His nurses loved on him as much as they could with all of the covid restrictions at the hospital.
We were unable to do the bell ringing ceremony at this time but may be able to do so in the future. At that time, the timeline for removing his port was unknown as well. Luckily, they called this weekend and we’re scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday).
In order for him to have surgery tomorrow, he had to be tested for covid-19 and he handled it like a champ today. We have been on super lockdown since March so I am very confident that we’ll be going through with the removal tomorrow.
After tomorrow, our next appointments come as follow up labs and maintenance scans every couple months. Again, and always, thank you for your support and love. We’re hopeful that we can see everyone soon and move into a cancer-free summer!
