Elena’s Story

Site created on November 19, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On October 2nd, 2018, Elena had her 20 week ultrasound and was told that she is having a sweet baby girl.
It was also the day that her Ob/Gyn doctor told her that the ultrasound was abnormal.
The baby was diagnosed with a condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).

This link explains what CDH is:

There will continue to be many prenatal visits and ultrasounds until baby is here, (with details on prognosis) so keep checking back for updates.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Terri Lobato

Hello!
Elena was seen at today 30 weeks at the Mother and Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. She is being cared for by the team of Perinatal physicians here. (The staff here is beyond wonderful!)

After a growth US and heart echo for the baby, we met with Dr. David Gremmels - Pediatric Cardiologist.

He seems to think everything is pretty normal with baby's heart, even if it is squished into the right side of her chest by her stomach,  liver and some bowel.

Dr. Saul Snowise - Ob/Gyn saw Elena and said that baby is growing well and is about 3 lbs, 7 oz! 💕

This is good news as we need her to be big and strong as possible.

The big concern about the baby will be how much intervention she will need after she is born, to help her breathe.

Elena will be seen again on the 26th and after that - every week for non-stress test and biophysical profile, and growth US every 4 weeks, until delivery.

Thanks for visiting, keep those prayers and good thoughts coming!
