Elena’s Story

Site created on March 1, 2018

Elena had the flu and by the time she went to the doctor she already had Pneumococcal pneumonia.  She went from City MD to Lenox Hill Hospital on Monday, February 19th where she was put in a medically induced coma to fight the bacterial infection in the ICU.  Her doctors are Dr. Linda Kirschenbaum, Dr. Richard Lazzaro, Dr. Bushra Mina, Dr. Kush Ravindra Dholakia, many wonderful interns and nurses.  She can hear you when you visit the nurse informed me as her heart rate goes up when you speak loudly.  Ghislain's parents have flown in from France to be with the family.  Ghislain is grateful for distractions such as invitations to dinner and playdates for Gioia.  The doctors, while optimistic because of Elena's age and prior good health,  have also told Ghislain to be prepared for the worst.

Journal entry by Holly Hunt

Very happy news to share is that Elena returned home on Christmas morning.  I am sorry to be a tardy scribe!  She is still on antibiotics and not feeling 100% but at least she is at home!
