Welcome to Ed’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated about his condition in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Ed’s leukemia has returned. His white blood cell count has been getting alarmingly high and if it is not reduced he could have a stroke at any time. Past that, the doctors say he may not have more than 10-15 months left.

He was admitted to the Oncology wing of Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Desert on December 24th around 3pm. He’s been set up in room 380 in the 3 East Wing.  Being taking care of by Dr. Amy Law, whom he has high praise for and checks on him at all hours. Even 12:05am on December 25th.

They are started him on chemo treatments and kept an eye on him in the hospital for a few weeks. He was sent home as of January 4th and Amie set him up with some round-the-clock professional in-home care to help him with his meds, hygiene, get to appointments, cook, and generally keep a close eye on his health.

According to Dr. Law his biggest risk now is infection of any kind, which, unfortunately, means he can’t go out much and has to be very careful with who can come to visit. His immune system will be pretty much shot after all chemo and all his previous health problems leading up to this. Even catching a cold could have dire effects.

But for now he seems happy and safe at home and is getting along with Mercy, his new in-home caretaker. :)

We will post more information as we learn more.
