Edlu & Warren’s Story

Site created on September 17, 2020

Warren Harper and Edlu Thom-Harper have lived in their beautiful home on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay for over 25 years. For many of those years, they’ve been blessed with the joy of two special dogs, Amber and Sophie. Their passions include their blended family, extensive world travel, (especially Africa), and spending times with good friends.
Although Warren and Edlu had always been very cautious about covid exposure (masks, social distancing, washing hands, avoiding crowds and mostly staying home) they contracted the virus near Warren’s 81st birthday. It may have from a restaurant where they went for an early dinner on his birthday, September 4. It all happened fast - Warren had a cough by Saturday night, September 5. Thinking it was allergies, he took a pill and went to bed. By Sunday, he was so exhausted, he could barely get out of bed and had a low grade fever. Monday, his temperature climbed to 103 degrees and Edlu’s symptoms started that night. By Tuesday morning, we had been tested for Covid. Warren went to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis on Friday, September 11, where he remains. He is currently on a ventilator and very ill. We are praying for a miracle and staying positive so we can have him home again.
Edlu started losing oxygen capacity on Tuesday, September 15, and was admitted to AAMC for treatment. Fortunately, she is slowly getting better day by day thanks to the angel health care workers who sacrifice so much to care for so many and the support of their family and friends.
Please take this terrible disease seriously. Wear your masks, social distance, keep your circles tight, wash your hands, avoid crowds and indoor dining. You have no idea where this virus may be lurking and the terrible health impacts it can have. It is NO HOAX. Our lives have changed forever!!
Many thanks for everyone’s thoughts and prayers. ❤️

Journal entry by Trisha Frye

From Edlu: Heaven gained an amazing angel today, my beloved husband, Warren, passed away at approximately 4:30 pm ET from Covid 19.  Although the medical staff did everything in their power, the virus overtook his body, and he could no longer fight back. The entire family was able to say goodbye via zoom, and Trisha and I were able to be by his bedside, only due to having the virus as well. He was surrounded by so much love and many wonderful memories. A special prayer was given by Rev. Patti Sachs., a dear friend, and an Episcopal priest. He passed away very quickly and peacefully, and is now with our Lord.  He is now an advocate In heaven to assure people pay serious attention to this dreadful disease that can hit all ages.
