Eddie’s Story

Site created on November 5, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Eddie Phillips. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

One of Eddie's many hobbies if farming. On Sunday morning, November 1, he was involved in a very serious farming incident. Both of his hands were caught in the sharp husking rollers of his corn picker. Ultimately, all four fingers on his left hand were severed, along with the top (nail portion) of his left thumb. He was airlifted to Charleston, SC, where he has already undergone two surgeries, and he will have another on Friday morning around 10 AM. Here are the specific prayers that Eddie and family are asking for right now:

1) Healing of the infection in his left hand.
2) Regaining of circulation and feeling in his right index finger.
3) No further amputations.
4) Rest and endurance for his wife, Jean, as she takes care of him.

Newest Update

Happy New Year!

It's been a while since I posted an update, so I wanted to fill everyone in on where my dad is in his recovery process. This morning, he had a successful skin graft done on his left hand. He will wear a wound vac over the graft for a week or so. Then, hopefully he can begin some therapy and learn a new normal.

One piece of information that we haven't shared with many people is that my dad will have to have some surgery on his kidney. During some tests that were performed during his hospital stay in November following his accident, the doctors found a tumor on one of his kidneys. They are about 85% sure that the tumor is cancerous; however, they are also very confident that it is localized and can be treated with surgery alone. This surgery will be on February 1.
