Journal entry by Donna Coe

Decided to start a Caring Bridge for Earl and me.  As most of you know, Earl was diagnosed with liver cancer in January.  Thank the Lord, it didn’t start anywhere else and hasn’t spread anywhere.  In Marc and April he had radiation treatments, with radiation pellets injected directly into his liver.  He had an ultrasound in late May, which only showed 2 tumors, a decrease of 4! He will see all the doctors in July and beginning of August to see how well the treatment worked and the direction they will take next.  If the tumors are 3cm or less, he will be put on the transplant list.  If not, then he will need another round of treatments.  He may still be put on the list if they foresee them shrinking.

As for me, surgery was rough.  I don’t tolerate anesthesia and pain meds well. My oxygen was low, BP low, and had a lot of pain, and slept for 48 hours.  Since I had a lot of leg pain, I was put on steroids, which helped a lot.  I’ve been getting good care except for an occasional aid that seems to not be a good fit for the job.  Truth be told, the food is not very good.  Maybe that’s to be expected in such a huge hospital.  (CC main campus).  I’ll be here until Monday or Tuesday, then going to Willowood skill care in Brunswick.  ThNks for all your love.#
