Newest Update

Journal entry by rhonda potteiger

It has been well over a month since I have given an update.  So much has happened since that time.  We ended up with a light case of Covid over Christmas, so Christmas plans were delayed.  We had an enjoyable visit with our daughter, Rachel and her family for several days soon after that.  The biggest news is that along with our daughter, Ericka and her family, we purchased a home that is really 2 homes connected to each other by a simple door.  Because of Dwayne’s health, for years, Ericka and I have seriously talked and prayed about living next door to each other.  Finding this particular home and the current renovations to it can only be a God story.  It is only 6 miles from Nappanee Missionary Church, which has become our church family.  Currently, we drive about 35 minutes away, so we hope to be more involved, especially as the grandchildren get older.  It will be wonderful to live closer and make more church friends who live near the same area.  God provided Jason and Rose from our Sunday School class to oversee the renovations and our class came out last Saturday to tear out carpet, cupboards, walls, the floor to put in a staircase to the basement,  and provided lunch as well!  It transformed so much that day!  It’s the closest thing to an Amish barnraising that I’ve witnessed!   Our class has been unbelievably kind and generous to us to make this move possible.  We still have a ways to go but in the end, I believe it will be a wonderful place to call home.  By having Ericka and family next door, it will allow me to hopefully get a part time job again.  Someone can check in on Dwayne and he can have some interaction with family while I am gone.  I must say how blessed we are that both our son in laws have made offers to let us live with them in a similar situation.  That means a lot to me and I love them both for it!  We chose Wakarusa, IN because of the layout of the home and proximity to our church.  Currently, Dwayne is not quite as excited because change is difficult for him and causes him anxiety.  He wishes we were doing this in warmer weather down south! Don’t we all!!🤣.   This is the first and biggest decision that I’ve had to make without his complete blessing, which has been hard for me to do. However, I believe God is in this and because of Dwayne’s current health and to benefit my future health, we are moving forward.  I have sought wisdom from a multitude of counselors and each one has given us their encouragement and blessing.  Therapy for Dwayne is now over as they believe they have done all they can do for him at this point.  I’m hoping that the new living situation will eventually give Dwayne a sense of purpose and a reason to live again,   The doctor reduced his seizure meds slightly again last week. Since surgery, there have been no more seizures!  Thank you, Lord!!  Because of all of the antibiotics that were given in the hospital, Dwayne developed a skin condition that makes him incredibly itchy. He currently is on a round of medications to treat that.  January 31 will be the last day of my employment at Saint Joe hospital.  I am currently working on getting private insurance for myself and getting Dwayne on Medicare health insurance.   I now know more than ever, the benefit and meaning that work provides in life.  When a persons health is affected, it affects everything else!  However, I live in the US and still have so much more than so many others in the world. How can I be anything but grateful!!  Thankyou for your love, generosity, encouragement and prayers for us and our family.  I don’t know how people go through life without God and without a loving community of Christ followers.
We love you and pray God’s presence in your life!
