We have gotten a few questions regarding the living donor process, so we thought it would be a good idea to share some more info. The first step to being a living donor is to go to:
https://livingdonorreg.upmc.com/Here you will fill out basic information about yourself. You can select whether or not you want to donate directly to Daniel and whether you’d be willing to give to another recipient if you are not a match. This sometimes happens where someone would like to give to Recipient A and someone would like to give to Recipient B; however, the person who wants to give to A is not a match, but he/she is a match to B and vice versa the person who wants to give to B doesn’t match, but matches A. What they can do from there is what they call a swap, where everyone gets the matching kidney.
Once you fill out all the info, it will be screened by the living donor team. They will reach out to you to let you know if you are selected to continue on in the process. If get selected to get further tested, our insurance will cover all tests.
