Newest Update

Journal entry by Jennifer Duke

After the last update, Doug went for a PET Scan to see if any traces of the disease could be found.  Dr. Joshi called the next day to share the results—He is once again CANCER FREE!!!!  Halleluiah and Praise the Lord!!  There are absolutely no signs of any ‘rogue’ cells and all systems looked clear.  That was the best news ever and we are extremely thankful.

My boy continues to eat and has actually gained 6 pounds since he first started solids again.  He said he now feels hungry and he is certainly enjoying all of the flavors he has missed for so long.  Nutrition through the PEG tube is continuing right now since it is loaded with high calories filled with all the daily requirements.  He then supplements with meals as well as treats:  Frappuccino, Blizzard, Frosty, Milkshakes, Chick Fill-A, Cookies, Cakes, Chips/Onion Dip, Cheeses, Breads, and plenty of vodka sodas.  It is pure delight watching him enjoy every bite or sip.

Today we were back in Dr. Joshi’s office so he could remove the medi-port that had been used for chemotherapy as well as lab works.  This was another wonderful event.  He immediately noticed the weight gain and was pleased with the fistula’s small size.  The next visit does not need to be scheduled until the middle of September. Progress!!!   We are no longer sitting in idle and life is moving forward.

Doug continues doing PT twice each week and has also rejoined the gym.  He is doing various workouts to gain strength as well as stamina.  Hopefully he will be back on the golf course in another few months.  He misses the games as well as all of his good buddies.

We want to thank you once again for your ongoing prayers and support.  Celebrate today on our behalf and please offer up a prayer of thanksgiving for our wonderful news.  As always, we have the best support system imaginable and we are grateful for each one of you.  Here’s a toast to moving forward and a wonderful life for all of us…
