Every Christmas I anticipated a letter from the Schumicks, looking forward to what was hsppening in their lives. The comical happenings, yet informative information of his life. I got to enjoy his company in his first battery, I Bty 3/11. I followed him to Okinawa and was collocated with him at 12th Marine Rgmt. We were again reunited at the Scalag course at Ft Sill, Ok (Arty School) my last tour was with him at 29 Palms, Ca. All this being said he was always part of my family. I so enjoyed his last journey to his departure. Bitter/sweet! Every journal I received, I kept praying that his health would improve. He had such strength expressing himself. Then he started his new journey and continued with his delightful narrative describing his history in life. I’m going to miss Doug and looking forward to joining him in the afterlife. All of us are Always Faithful!

It appears Doug penned this journal remarks. If not, someone of like mind. Through the sad moments he still shows is wit and humor, tenacity and leaves good memories that shine thru his leaving. A rare find but a genuine kind and caring and witty person.
Thank you Doug and your family for being in our lives . You are a remarkable person and Marine. Missed but not forgotten

I am crying and laughing at the same time. This is sooooooo Doug! Sweet and Sharp and sarcastic and sentimental all at the same time. He was so special and will be missed by so many.
