Journal entry by Lynn Savage

It is with great sadness to share that on Thursday, December 5, Doug passed away comfortably at home.  He had a good game of scrabble going with his friend Ruth Dawson on Wednesday, and was winning.

Doug had finished the first round of chemo in December 2018.  The first stage of the second round was the week of November 18, followed by a week off.  When Doug went in on December 3 to begin the second stage of round two, they found that his white blood cell count was down; they gave him a booster for the low blood cell count and postponed the chemo.

As heartbreaking as this is, we can take solace that he is no longer suffering and remember him as, to quote a friend, the “smart, generous, and kind-hearted man he was beneath a grumpy cat-like exterior.”
