Dorothy’s Story

Site created on January 6, 2019

On January 2nd we took our 12 week old baby, Dorothy, to the pediatrician to check on some congestion from a lingering cold that had been hanging around since a few days before Christmas. Our pediatrician didn't like what she was seeing so she sent us to Children's Hospital to get things checked out. As soon as we were admitted into the emergency room we had some very serious worries from medical staff. They immediately sent us over to PICU where we were swarmed by a dozen doctors and nurses talking very quickly while examining Dorothy. I can't remember exactly when, but it was soon after that we first heard the word leukemia.

Journal entry by Ted Rice

Today we met Dorothy’s brother. His name is Sullivan Allan Rice and he was born at 5:06 AM this morning in Santa Rosa, California. He was just a shade under 8 pounds and is the sweetest little thing.
Alex is doing very well. She and Sully got some rest and now there’s a big love fest going on.
We are so happy.
What a wonderful day! ❤️
