Beginning in 1949, Doris went to work as a secretary in the Legal Department of the City of Kansas City, Kansas. Two years later, Mickey McEvers joined her. This legendary duo reigned within the office for the next 40 years. Attorneys would come and go but Doris and Mickey remained throughout, professional and above the fray. Mickey departed this life some time ago. Doris's death brings the era to a close. Requiescat in Pace. Robert J. Watson, Former City Attorney.

Dear Jennifer,
Your mom was a lovely person. I very much valued her friendship during our years together at the Legal Department. Suzanne Mahoney stopped by last night to give me a partial update. I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. Nothing can replace that hole in your life. But I know you must have many wonderful memories to sustain you. I’m so glad Doris was able to know her grandkids and to be involved in their lives. I know it was a great gift for her. She affected so many lives during her service with the City Legal Department. Many lawyers relied on her skills with the English language and her willingness to improve our written documents. We often found ourselves asking, “What would Doris do?” She was kind to all people she came in contact with and made us all better people. May she Rest In Peace. Jody
