Donovan’s Story

Site created on January 11, 2022

Don was the victim of a shooting in Chicago on Sunday morning, January 9 while he was walking down the sidewalk at night. He was left in critical condition and placed at Illinois Masonic for life-saving treatment. We spent each day by his side, waiting and hoping.

On Sunday, January 16 at 7:15pm, Donovan passed away from his injuries at Illinois Masonic just shortly after visiting hours with family had ended.

Don was 23 years old.  This was something we were unprepared for and our hearts are broken, but knowing he’s at peace has helped.

The family plans to memorialize and celebrate Donovan’s life at a later date when it’s safer for those who loved him to gather.

This is all so hard to say and share. We are using this site to keep our family and friends updated in one place. There is also a GoFundMe account to assist with expenses, it’s linked in the Ways to Help section.

We appreciate your love, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you.

Love,
Tina, Michael, Dahna and our extended family

We would like to announce that the memorial celebration for Donovan is currently being planned. Due to many factors, we are holding the in-person memorial for close family and friends only. We are grateful however, that technology has advanced to where we will also be able to invite you to join us via Zoom for those unable to attend in person. Please follow the link below to register for this event.
