Newest Update

Journal entry by Elia MacCubbin

Mom has officially been home for over 2 weeks now! She has seen both her primary care doctor as well as her surgeon, and heard nothing but good things from both. Her appointment with her surgeon yesterday was better news that we even prayed for. He told her the aneurysms on the left side of her brain are basically not a concern. Two of them are too small to be a concern, and the one that he may want to treat in the future won’t need treatment for at least a year or more. He also said that one can be coiled! So no more craniotomy’s in moms future!!!

Recovery wise she still isn’t back to 100%, but she’s doing really great. Her biggest struggle right now that we didn’t really foresee is that the incision is right on some muscles that she uses to chew. Since she has the narrowing esophagus, she has to chew her food really well which now she’s unable to do till those muscles/scars heal. She’s gotten a few things stuck in her throat over the past two weeks, and the limits on what she can eat have made it a bit difficult to get her the nutrients she needs. So we’ve been making everything into a purée for her, which has worked over all but isn’t the most exciting meals.

She was given the ok by her surgeon to go for the procedure to stretch her throat at the end of this month thankfully! So she will have that on November 29th, and that will be the last thing she has to do for at least a year. We are so excited for her to get to return to normal life!

We love you all, and appreciate the prayers. Mom is doing better than even the surgeon expected, and we know the prayers and love she’s received have made such a difference.

P.S. this photo is of her taking in the excitement and relief that she’s finally approved to have her green tea frappuccino again! Another super wonderful thing she was told by her surgeon yesterday!
