Journal entry by bob mccollor —
Donna was first diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago. She was treated at North Memorial Hospital with chemo and radiation. Things seemed fine but there was always the chance of the cancer coming back. She had yearly checkups and booster shots until this year when she developed pain in her right arm. They determined that she had nerve damage to that arm and the cancer was back but through her whole body. A biopsy found cancer in her liver and a decision was made to not treat the cancer but to deal with the pain with two medications to slow the growth of the cancer. She had adverse reaction to the medication and a decision was made to discontinue the medication, treat the pain and put her on home hospice. She has two aides who come in 4-5 hours a week to give her a bath and set up her meds. We have people in the building who are willing to stay with her so I can run to the store.
