Don’s Story

Site created on October 4, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On October 2, 2021, Donnie was admitted to  St. Mary's ICU due to a bleed on his brain. His whole right side of his brain was compacted and pushed into the left side. This caused his left side of the brain to be shifted as well. He had massive midline shift, meaning that he had significant amount of blood. Sunday 10/3, he went into emergency brain surgery.  They drilled 2 holes into his scalp and removed the blood. Immediately after the blood was removed, his parietal lobe (back side) peaked right up and looked good. His frontal lobe stayed compressed and dull grey.  Only time will tell how much function will come back. As if that isn't enough, his heart is staying in afib and causing problems and he also has a bleed somewhere else in his body. That bleed will be addressed after he becomes stable. The primary focus right now is his brain function and his heart issue. I will keep everyone updates as I hear.
