What can I say about Dave...he was at different times my hero, my mentor, my friend (despite our great difference in age), a surrogate father (my family was long away in New Guinea as Bible translators with Wycliffe and Dave instantly embraced me and my wife as family; he and Delores just opened their arms wide as only they can) and ALWAYS an inspiration.

My wife and I were disillusioned with our church after returning from a visit to New Guinea. We had a divine appointment at a Wycliffe Associates banquet one night after our return - we sat at a table with this great jovial man radiating the joy of the Lord. He changed our lives that night as he encouraged us to visit his church where missions was a passion just as it was for Dave.

I have missed him greatly since their move back to Minnesota, but we always picked up right where we left off. And that zeal for the Lord never wavered! Dave, thank you for welcoming us into your family. I rejoice with you that you are in the presence of your beloved Savior! I eagerly await the day I can see you again in His presence!

We consider it an honor to call Dave friend. He lived a life that honors our Lord and I'm sure he is rejoicing and celebrating in Heaven. Our prayers are with Delores and her family as they grieve their loss.

Dave has been my closest friend since 8th grade, or for 70 years. God’s calling on our lives has kept us miles apart for many of those years. But our bond never weakened and this loss is hard to believe and accept. But we all know what a wonderful place he has moved to. Our prayers now are for Delores and his family, all of whom we care deeply about. Thank you Dave for the great impact you had on my life!

Convinced that Dave is rejoicing to be in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, hearing "well done, good & faithful servant." Throughout last night, I kept thinking what to write while Dave could still read it. Words fail to convey the gratitude I have for Dave's investment into the lives of several men that come to mind and specifically Lloyd's. Dave's love for the Lord led him to share a common interest - with Lloyd it was aviation - as a platform for sharing & speaking into the life of another. Dave was intentional in building relationships in which men could be led closer to the the Lord. I hate to think where Lloyd would be ... but for Dave. Our love and prayers go out to Delores, Stephen, Valerie and the rest of Dave's family.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 NIV
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. NIV
DAVE - A GOOD MAN
With LOVE, PEACE and COMFORT to the entire Scherling Family,
Diane
