Newest Update

Journal entry by Tracey Rodgers

It is another positive milestone to share about my Mom the amazing Dixie as she keeps making strides . This past week she has made more progress with her at home physical therapy she is still getting . She has been able to stand in her own kitchen from her wheelchair without really any assistance . Prior to that she has been able to get more strength to lift her body up and sit safely on side of the bed. This was not something physical therapy in her prior rehab even ventured to try because they just didn’t think it was possible or safe. But she keeps pushing herself as much as possible and has so much will to keep going even after almost 6 months now from the stroke.  She also is able to eat anything she wants safely now. She is super excited to be going out this week to one of her favorite restaurants with us all to go to Texas Roadhouse. She has plans to have some steak for sure .  Also she has had a recent eye speciality appointment too where we are going to soon obtain her new eye glasses with magnification. She had not been able to read for so many months due to vision issues and anyone who knows her realizes this is something she misses so much. She so far had gotten a special magnifier with a light that has already helped her read on her own successfully. It was so wonderful to see how happy this made her to read one of her own favorite books.
Last big update is the move next week to a more handicap accessible home for her . It is of course a one level with open concept and her wheelchair will be able to really get around easy . It truly is a beautiful place located at Boardwalk Senior community in Elkhart that she is super excited to see finally. The one thing that is yet necessary is to put in a wheelchair ramp which will be done Saturday . My amazing husband Aaron is so wonderful taking this project on to make the home all ready and safe for her . The move is officially to be this Sunday so please pray for our strength to make it a smooth transition for of course her and husband along with son . Please feel free to send cards or well wishes to her / family at their new place located 2233 B & O Railroad Elkhart IN 46514. Their home in Mishawaka they have lived in for exactly 30 years will go up for sale this summer so a lot is happening we wanted to finally share :)
