Journal entry by Carl Schroeder

Discharged Today about noon. Saw Dr. Hyman again this morning and he said to be prepared for a rough two weeks getting the colon back online. He tells Diane with everything she’s been through she can handle it no problem. He said that if she becomes dehydrated again she should just come to the emergency room and will restart the IVs and pump her back up. She ate breakfast and tolerated it very well. The diarrhea continues to decrease. Diane is on the drug Entyvio which is a biologic infusion. Incredibly expensive with a retail cost of $41,000 per dose. Medicare pays about $8000 and Blue Cross Blue Shield our supplement adds $1000. What cleared Diane for the reconnection was a colonoscopy performed by Dr. Sakuraba about five weeks ago. At that time he noted a recurrence of the Crohn’s at the junction of her small intestine and colon. He characterize this as a mild recurrence  But changed the frequency of her infusions from eight weeks to four weeks. She was supposed to start the schedule this week but ends up in the hospital. Jen Lapis to the rescue. Jen set up a infusion today to follow her discharge and we went from the third floor to the fourth floor and just got it done. She also straightened out the question of how Diane would get infusions in Florida and this is in the works. The competency of the medical people at the university of Chicago is fabulous
So, we are home and Diane is currently sleeping in her own bed very soundly. I will have to wake her up to feed her dinner. God has been very gracious to us through this entire experience and we are very thankful. We are also thankful for friends like you and your concern and support. If anything unusual happens in the future I will post it to the site, but hopefully this adventure is coming to a close.
