Derek’s Story

Site created on January 28, 2019

Welcome to Derek’s CaringBridge website.  I am using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. I appreciate your prayers, support and words of encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

I was diagnosed with Lung Adenocarcinoma on Jan. 23, 2019.  I was fortunate that my wife pushed for a chest X-ray during a pre-op for surgery to remove a tumor from my right leg - I had been battling a cough which was thought to be bronchitis- instead two nodes were found on my right lung.

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to say a belated thank you to those that were able to make it to Derek’s service.  His family and I completely understand if you were unable to attend but I wanted everyone to know how much your thoughts, prayers, love and support have meant to us. It has taken me a while to decompress from everything surrounding the service.  It has been a whirlwind of a year….and a few months. Dawson and I are adjusting to our new normal; as the saying goes. We just returned from our annual, “traditional” beach trip. It was so good to get away and recharge but without a doubt our thoughts were often about Derek and our previous years. We enjoyed favorite restaurants, ice cream cones, walks on the beach hunting for shells, and of course, s’mores on the beach. 🌊 I’m so glad Dawson wants to keep up this tradition and I am so proud of the young man he has become. He is truly the greatest gift Derek could have ever given me.
I have a few memory cards left from Derek’s service. If you would like me to mail you one or would just like to keep in touch, I will add my email to the end of this note.
Much love and God’s blessings to you all💗
