Newest Update

Journal entry by Kevin Maleike

Post from Mare and Lar:

Valentines Day seemed the right moment to acknowledge the spirit of the love this Bridge provided us worked.  So much love and support in so many ways from so many.

Den is staying with us for an additional month; it is something we, including him, needed.  He completed his initial evaluation with Cornell Presbyterian Burn Center in NYC and has his follow up scheduled.  They advised us of a Global surgical exception in all insurances that provided an additional amount of benefit days for anyone who had more than one surgery during an admission, in or out of Network.  He qualified with 5. Crozer was able to see him while he’s here.  We feel better that he’s stronger and so does he.  God is good.

First, thanks Kev. What a son, what a brother...what a man.  You’re a gift; so is Rudi, we luv ya. Thanks for connecting us all.

Now we cannot discern...we can only feel and reap the benefits of 3000 plus vibes, no matter their nature, that have taken us through this challenge so remarkably.   Gratefulness is like love; ya just feel it. Thanks, we’re still feeling it and it works.

To sisters, brothers, sons, and daughters, in and out of lawa brave grandson and a granddaughter who has LaLa in lala land most of the time; to our cousins/neighbors/relations...who are all friends...love is parallel.  Meemo taught me that love is parallel...once you know love/really feel it, you love everybody the same.  No matter the connection to Den, we felt the love and...it worked.  Our love for all is the only thing that surpasses our gratitude.

Life goes on and Den is going with it. The support provided by the CaringBridge has been indescribable.  Den has a road to go, but feels good about the plan Cornell has for his future, as do we, and feels positive about going home stronger, as do we.

When Den finally was able to get off the ventilator, breathing on his own and through the memories of the flames, he was saddened when he realized we missed Christmas, felt it was his fault.  When we thought his spirit was lost in the fire, we suggested a goal we believed he could achieve and promised him Christmas in July 2020 at 4 Bernard.

So...though this is the last ‘update’ on CaringBridge, it is also a ‘Heads Up.’  4 Bernard will be habitable thanks again to family support and insurance by pool time this year and we will have Christmas in July 2020 this year.

All are invited though we recommend you keep in touch for the date with anyone including us...Lar (484) 574-4925 or Mare (610) 485-2177.  It’s too soon to determine the date but it will be in July.

In the last almost 3 months, life went on and so did we.  We’ve lost parents, friend’s parents, and aunts; our friends and loved ones have gotten through the other many challenges being a family gives you. The love sustains us and keeps us.  Never say goodbye!  See you soon.

God blessed Den and all of us toohow lucky can you get?

Don’t forget your towel, love ya, Mare and Lar [too].
