Denell (Nelly)’s Story

Site created on November 1, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Today, November 1st, my mom Denell’s/Nelly was at home and either suffered a stroke or a aneurysm (still to be determined). She was taken to St. Francis and confirmed she had a large Brain bleed on her left side. They were unable to treat her so they sedated her and kept her as stable as possible until she was sent to Methodist where they have a great team that can help. It was not sure for hours what the prognosis was or outcome, as when we were at St. Francis they let us say our goodbyes. Thankfully, we just learned at Methodist that they are feeling good they can fix the bleed, and reduce the swelling in her brain. They said because it was the left side, it is very good chance she will lose mobility of her right side but It could come back with therapy. Along with her speech. We are devastated but so hopeful that surgery will go well and she will recover quick! The surgeon said, she will be going to a nursing home where she can get the care she needs and at Home care is not an option. Garrett and myself will be moving in with my dad and doing everything we can to help. As of now they only allow one person a day at hospital but will keep everyone posted here! She’s currently in surgery and as soon as we hear any updates I will post here  Send all the prayers!!!!.

We love you all, and we know mom is one tough cookie and that she WILL get through this!!! Love Jenni (her daughter)

Jason her son, and Jessi her other daughter send all their love too!

FYI due to limiting COVID exposure to my dad, were not allowing visitors at his house.

Journal entry by Jenni Lund

Mom is home!!! We still cannot believe it but was able to come home ❤️  Been a lot of adjusting for her and I’m sure very overwhelming but she’s a rockstar and doing great! Over next few weeks will take time to get things stable and still looking for a PCA but until then I am here and helping with everything. Mom is so amazing and such a trooper! Will likely not have updates on here as much if at all, but feel free to reach out to me or add me on Facebook too. Still a road ahead for mom but we’re just Thankful she’s here with us today! Can’t tell you enough how much we appreciate everyone’s love and support, I know mom does too!
