Best news so far.....Deb is going home today. Here’s the scoop on the weekend. It started out rough but she made great progress.

Friday 2/14

Deb has had a rough morning.  Diane and I arrived at 7:00 AM and Deb wanted to go to the restroom.  When she stood up she vomited a large amount of bile again.  This is extremely painful for her.  Her doctor has had an NG tube (NasoGastric) reinserted to pump the stomach.  It is an understatement to say Deb hated the tube being reinserted.

She is schedule for a CT scan today this afternoon. The doctors don’t suspect any problem but are taking the scan out of an abundance of caution.

She is resting peacefully right now.   More to come.....

Sunday 2/16

Yesterday was a slow and restful day. With the NG tube in her mobility is limited unless we disconnect the tube.  We did disconnect her a couple of times and took 2 short walks.  She was weak and shaky so she spent most of the day in bed.

Today, she is much stronger and less shaky.  She still has a stomach tube but they did start her on Reglen yesterday to help stimulate her digestive system and she feels more gut activity and has developed an appetite.  The doctors said this was a good sign.

Her pain levels are well controlled now and she is able to get out of bed without assistance. She was even able to put on her own Sox’s. The Physical Therapist came to examine her today and took her on a walk. He said she was doing good.  She also had a visit from Gracie - a Jack Russell terroir.

Tomorrow the will clamp her stomach tube to see if her digestive track is working.  Deb. needs to be able to eat and digest food before they will discharge her.

Monday 2/17

Deb has had a good day today. They disconnected her Stomach tube from suction at 8:00 AM (but left it in) and started her on a clear liquid diet. During the day she has consumed black tea, honey, and chicken broth.   After not eating for 12 days she said the chicken broth was the best she has ever had.  She has tolerated the diet very well and has had no nausea.  Since she did so well, they pulled her tube at 6:00 PM and she is a very happy camper.  Below are pictures where the nurse is getting ready to pull the tube and then an after picture.

Today 2/18:

It has been a busy day. Before breakfast Deb took a short walk and then after breakfast the physical therapist and occupational therapist team showed up to evaluate Deb. They made her walk 200 ft to their therapy stairs, climb the stairs and then walk back to the room - she did great.

After that, she was sent down to radiology for a CT scan of her bladder using a contrast media. The repair to her bladder looked good and the nurse has removed Deb’s catheter - another happy milestone.  She is now enjoying powdered mashed, rice and poultry gravy for lunch.

If Deb’s bladder functions normally and she is able to digest her breakfast and lunch she may get discharged late today.
