Journal entry by Debbie Freid —
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything - mainly because there wasn’t much going on - just taking my meds, working and trying to stay cool in summer heat. Until last week!
Last week I had a CT scan to ensure I am all clear of cancer! Unfortunately, I had to drink an awful drink - which if you know me - I can NOT drink anything that tastes awful - and this definitely was awful. I could only drink about a quarter of one of two bottles before I started to gag and spit it out. I called the doctor to see what to do - they said I could still come in and do the scan - phew! Had the scan done and the next day got the results - I was officially cancer free!! WOO-HOO!
Next I had the reconstruction surgery on Monday, July 18! Time to get these rocks (expanders) off of my chest! Went in at 8 am and was home by 2 pm. I did have to have a drain on my right side (bummer) however, all in all felt good after the surgery. Thanks to my friends and neighbors for all the help with everything - including caring for Cosmo - who at almost 18 years old wasn’t quite sure what was going on but just wanted to snuggle with me. I was able to get the drain removed on Wednesday (only two days after surgery) which was a relief. Also, was able to manage pain with just Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen!
So now i am just healing from the surgery and taking my meds. I am lucky that I have the means to great medical resources, medicine and doctors. Not everyone does and I definitely am not taking that for granted. I am also blessed with an amazing family and friends that have been there every step of the way. I could not have gotten through it all with all the love and support! Make every day count. Choose happiness and kindness every day!
