David’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
This is the sixth surgery in my mouth for cancer/leukoplakia going back to about 2005.  It is the most radical since cancer is not only in the gum tissue, but has invaded my jaw bone.  Fortunately, the cancer is still localized, meaning it has not spread to anywhere else.  During my previous surgery in January 2017, I lost three teeth on the lower right side of my mouth.  On March first 2018, my periodontist extracted another tooth on the lower right and sent it to Johns Hopkins for biopsy.  This is what led to my current occasion of cancer.

Journal entry by David Shearer

I have a new cancerous mass under my tongue confirmed by a biopsy of 07/03/2023. I had a PET CT scan on Saturday 07/08/2023 and will see my Johns Hopkins oncology Dr Blanco at GBMC Wednesday to find out the results of the PET scan. I have an appointment on Friday at Johns Hopkins plastic surgeon, Dr Boahene's office. No surgery date yet, but will get one soon - within a couple of weeks.
