Journal entry by David Hutsell

Good morning everyone,

As I sit here receiving my daily infusion at the University of MD hospital, I thought it would be an opportune time to bring you up to date with my progress. Overall I have been feeling pretty well and have really enjoyed being able to return to work at Pine Ridge on a part-time basis. I have even started giving a few lessons a week. Getting back into more of a routine has been a blessing for sure. My routine does still include chemotherapy Monday-Friday for four weeks straight of which I am starting week two of round three today. I do get three weeks off in between rounds which is nice as it gives me a chance to recover and get a bit more energy. I did find out a little over a week ago that my schedule will include two more rounds of chemotherapy after this one, for a total of five that should conclude around the beginning of September. It feels as though the finish line has been pushed a little farther down the road, but is clearly in sight. All indications from my doctor are that things are going as planned and my numbers are looking good.

I unfortunately had to withdraw from the Senior PGA Championship later this month at Southern Hills CC in Oklahoma. I am not feeling competition ready at this point but I do plan on being there for next year’s Championship in Michigan. I have been able to play a couple of rounds so far this year but more importantly, I have been able to watch my daughter Maddy’s golf game progress this spring. She just completed her first full season of high school golf and made the all conference team as a sophomore. What a great accomplishment while also maintaining her honor roll status. I could not be more proud of her!

Patty is back in school teaching and continues to be our rock during all of our recent challenges. She is such a hard worker who cares deeply for the children in her ESOL program. I have had the opportunity to meet some of her students virtually, see the smiles she brings to their faces, and understand how positively she is effecting their lives.

We as a family continue to say thank you for all of your support. We have genuinely felt you all holding us up as we continue on this journey. We will get through this together!

Wishing you all the best,

David
