Journal entry by David Ginter

Hi to all

I finished my 3 full weeks after radiation and it was on this weekend, to finally be able to eat a non-pureed breakfast, lunch, dinner.  The previous two weeks were very difficult and felt like I was hungry all the time. My throat and esophagus were in bad shape it was like having a severe sunburn, had to take T3's to eat, and a numbing solution before dinner.  However last weekend I was able to switch to soft food along as they were in chopped fine. My energy levels have come back and I finished the Christmas Light outdoor before the snow fell a good project off my plate. Now the inside however going to wait when Greydon and his girlfriend come home from Vancouver to spend UBC Christmas break with us. We are very excited to show Cindy a true Canadian winter as it is her first time to be in Canada at Christmas, normally she heads to either Thailand or Qatar to be with her family.  We are planning to spend a day or two in Windemere to see the mountains and a trip to Kicking Horse to ride the gondola if it is open, (Gondola to our mountain top observation area and dining experience at Eagles Eye Restaurant. The aptly-named restaurant sits at the top of the gondola, at over 2300m above sea level, and is the Highest Elevated Restaurant in all of Canada).  I have been there a couple of times and it is a jewel of the Canadian Rockies. (weather permitting )lol?

I will finish off today's journal with a list of songs I have used for inspiration and a way to settle thoughts that seem to cloud, like storms in my mind. Take time to listen  to them;

In order to the journal -

  • Space Oddity - David Bowie
  • Set the controls to the middle of the sun- Roger Waters
  • Rocketman - Elton John
  • Signal to Noise - Peter Gabriel
  • Wheat Kings - Tragically Hip
  • Night Swimming - REM
  • Kid Fears - Indigo Girls
  •  Walking on the Moon
  • The ascent of Man- REM
  • Be Still - The Killers
  • Kind and Generous - Natalie Merchant
  • Free Fallin - Tom Petty
  • This is the Sea - The Waterboys
  • A Pagan Place - the Waterboys
  • Trumpets - The Waterboys (for Haley, Tori, and Greydon)
  • Spirit - The Waterboys (for me)

"Trumpets"
Your love feels
Like trumpets sound
I said your love feels
Like trumpets sound
Your life is like a mountain
Yes, your life is like a mountain
And your heart is like a church
With wide open doors
And to be with you
Is to find myself in the best of dreams
Your love feels like trumpets

Your love feels
Like high summer
Your love feels
Like high, high, summer
Your life is like an ocean
Yes, your life is like an ocean
I want to dive in naked
Lose myself in your depths
I want to be with you
To find myself in the best of dreams
Your love feels like trumpets

Please don't wake me
No don't shake me
I want to be with you
When being with you is the same
The same as being you
Your love feels like trumpets

"Spirit"

Man gets tired
Spirit don't
Man surrenders
Spirit won't
Man crawls
Spirit flies
Spirit lives
When man dies

Man seems
Spirit is
Man dreams
The spirit lives
Man is tethered
Spirit free
What spirit is
 man can be

I want to thank all the people who have supported my journey with well wishes, offers to drive, food dropoffs (soups), and donations to my "go fund me" campaign. It was overwhelming to me and our family and has us filled with immense gratitude.

All our love,

David, Haeley,Greydon,Tori.
