David’s Story

Site created on January 29, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website! We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

We have been hit with some hard news and are still trying to process this ourselves. So right now, we just kindly ask for patience and prayers as we seek more  answers. David has recently been diagnosed with Renal Kidney Cancer or Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC). So far we know that Multiple masses have been detected but further tests will be ran as soon as this week to determine the severity of this.  We appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement as we take on this next journey. We hope to keep everyone informed as best we can, so you can also chose to receive email updates as new information is posted here.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Katie Cook

Good Morning Ford Fight Family! I'm so sorry it's been so long since the last update! I have taken a new job which has occupied most of my time while I've adjusted to the changes. Thank you all for understanding.
Since the last update David has recovered from COVID and is no longer experiencing any of the symptoms! It was a rough ride so we are thankful to say it's over and to see David feeling back to his usual self 😊

RECAP:
As you know, David had his right kidney and adrenal gland removed in April. To my understanding, Even with the removal of the two tumors, David is still considered a stage 4 patient because the cancer had spread to more than one organ in the first place. After his surgery, doctors wanted to give David's body some time to heal before creating a plan of attack on the mass attached to the left kidney.

CURRENTLY:
Now that it's been a couple months, David has just had updated scans so the doctors can see any changes in the mass, and if anything has spread to other parts of the body.
The scans showed that the mass on the left kidney has NOT grown and the spots on his lung they wanted to keep an eye on, have also NOT grown. Praise the Lord!🙏

The scans however, did show a small, new growth (around 3mm) on David's lung. This is scary news, but we know the most important thing is that David is feeling okay and is not in any pain. With that in mind we are eager to hear the Doctor's Plan and how they want to proceed. BUT, right now they are recommending a "wait & see" approach. Which as you all can imagine, waiting for news is the hardest part.

David's team of doctors will be meeting in 3 weeks to discuss whether or not they will remove the mass on the left kidney, while they continue to watch the new spot on his lung.

We asked what he THINKS will happen, and the doctor believes they will choose to wait on removing the mass, and get updated scans in 3 months. They do not want to do surgery if the cancer is metastasizing to David's lungs. If this is the decision they come to, they will then determine when David should start on the systemic Immunotherapy.

WHAT CAN I DO?
Keep the prayers coming and the encouraging words flowing. As I mentioned before, David is feeling great and is not in any pain- for that, we are beyond thankful! The previous growths have not grown in size and we are just remining patient until we know more.
We are so thankful for our Ford Fight Family and all the ways you have shown your support! Prayers, food, get well gifts, donations, and "thinking of you" texts! Needless to say, we would be a mess without you all. God is good. ALL the time. Especially for placing you in our lives.

WHERE CAN I DONATE?
Medical bills are still rolling in at a steady rate and each bill in the mail is another reminder of this life changing thing. If you are willing and able, the link to David's GoFundMe is here: https://gofund.me/93a3d34f
