Journal entry by Lindsay Diaz

David has had a rough few weeks lately. It started when instead of my weekend off work on August 24-25, the AT&T CWA Union in the Southeast went on strike for the first time in 36 years. I had to be at a Dispatch and Trouble Center at 6:45 am Saturday morning to work for some of the striking workers. The 12 hour days were long and I didn't get to go see David for lunch and dinner but only after the end of the shift at 7pm. He was a trooper through it and the nurses and nursing assistants took extra good care of him. Fortunately, the strike ended at noon on August 28 with a tentative agreement.

David's brother Steve came in on Thursday night August 29. He was able to stay and visit until September 1 when I put him on a plane back to California. They had a great time recollecting and visiting.

Unfortunately David had to go to the Emergency Room on Labor Day. He had some itching that he scratched that got infected and the regular antibiotic was not working. He was admitted to the hospital and they had to operate to clean the lesions up. My good friend Carolyn came to sit with me during the operation and recovery room time. David got out on Thursday September 5 and was really glad to be back in familiar setting of Diversicare. He is now healing and because of the location of the wounds, he is on bed rest. The nurses say he is progressing well. He goes back to the doctor for a progress check on Wednesday. I hope he can get back to his regular routine soon.

Keep the thoughts and prayers coming. I appreciate the good wishes as does David.
