Journal entry by Lindsay Diaz

I know it has been long time since I posted anything. As you know I eat lunch and dinner with David every day. On Monday - Friday I work 7-12 and 2-5. Saturday and Sunday are errands, house and clothes cleaning (I do wash David's stuff every night), paying bills, minor shopping - usually just breakfast stuff for me, and all the stuff you don't think of that has to be done.

I did take off 5 days to go on my annual beach trip with former and current work friends. This was made possible by my brother Doug from Jacksonville, FL, who came to keep David company and stay with Jake the cat. Both were very grateful as Doug and David talked cars and Doug and Jake played cat games. And I had a restful time!

Doug said he could see big improvements in David's speech and he was impressed with David's ability to go from the wheelchair to the bed without the lift.  He also noticed David's ability to get both of his legs on the bed without my help. Since he had not seen David in a couple of months he noticed the improvements.

Whenever David's restorative CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) Tina is not available I do his range of motion and put the brace for his left arm on. I have noticed minor improvements which I view as important.

Today I was there with the restorative CNA Tina and she and I both told him that he was helping us with his movements. In fact, after Tina put David's brace on, we both stepped away and told David to try lifting his arm. He did it! Only a fraction but still that is progress!
