David and Liz’s Story

Site created on January 22, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  As most of you know, on December 21, 2018, David had an MRI done at the Dallas VA due to having blurred vision and headaches.  On Sunday, December 23, at around 4 am, we received a call that he had a tumor on the left frontal lobe of his brain. He was transferred to UT Southwest Hospital in Dallas and on the morning of December 24, they removed 80 % of a tumor the size of a grapefruit.  After 2 weeks of rest, physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy the test results were finally in and our lives were changed forever.  David was diagnosed with grade 4 brain cancer, Glioblastoma.  At first we were in total shock and denial and were told we would have to work through the VA system to get him help since he was already receiving services with them as a Disabled Veteran but UT Southwest has been helping us advocate for David to continue treatment with them.  We would like to thank everyone that has shown us so much love and support by visiting us, preparing meals and praying for us.  We will be posting updates about David and Liz on this page and ask that you will post any questions you may have here and we will respond as soon as possible. We also ask that you continue to pray for continued healing and strength for Liz and David according to God's will as they prepare for the fight of their life, because in this family NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11

Newest Update

Journal entry by Crystal Wilson

It has been a rough two weeks, but David is still fighting strong. Platelet levels have been low due to the chemo so he had to stop his chemo pill 6 days early, but he did complete his 6 weeks of radiation. He has also had two platelet transfusions, and his numbers seem to finally be moving up. He has more blood work done on Friday so keep the prayers coming that God will continue to heal him. A special shout out to Liz, she has been an AMAZING caregiver this whole time.  I am so proud of her. For now, it's time to focus on resting and being and getting ready for our Brain Cancer Awareness 5k. Did you know we are currently the 5th largest team signed up for the race!!!
