Dave’s Story

Site created on January 29, 2016

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.Dave (Dad, as we call him) was diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkins Follicular  Lymphoma on January 28, 2016. We learned on his first day of chemo (February 8) after his doctor looked at his PET scan results that it is Stage 4.

He has the Dream Team of doctors and dad is a fighter, so we have no doubt he will beat this! That combination on top of the prognosis shared by his Oncologist makes us even more confident that dad is stronger than this terrible stuff.  His support team is endless and you can never have enough prayers! We appreciate all the extra love, energy, prayers, help and support we have received already and will continue to receive. Our dad is loved by many and for that we are grateful!

Journal entry by Danielle Toro

Yesterday marked the end of dad's 2-year treatment cycle of Rituxan. He is done!!! It has been a long road of twists and turns, but just as we all expected and prayed for, he came out on top.
Dad's longtime friend, Larry, came to be there to pray with dad and mark the ending of treatment. This man truly is a blessing to our family. Dad turned 54 years old on Thursday and Larry also wanted to get in on that celebration. He gifted dad with a bible with his name engraved on the cover. Extra special bonus....the text is large print for dad's old eyes, lol!
Anytime something comes to an end, the common question is, "what's next?" So, to answer that, dad has a CT scan in late July followed by an appointment with Finnie to review the results. We expect great results (no active cancer), therefore the plan is to see Finnie every few months following to stay under close watch for a while.
It is a pretty exciting month for our family and we have a lot to celebrate! We are grateful for all of our blessings, especially the end of treatment for dad and look forward to celebrating in Charleston soon! Words cannot accurately express how thankful we are for each one of you and your hand in the past few years. Continue to keep dad in your prayers and ask for him to remain in good health please. Thank you, thank you!
