Oh, Dave! Thank you, as always, for your profound writings that are so poignant and joyful even when they contain heavy news. I didn't know this about myeloma either, and so appreciate you taking us along on your journey. I'm exhausted from the buffeting of grief....the long loss of my Mum over 14 years, ending last May with her release from this plane, and of course all the collective grief of a global pandemic, climate change destruction at our very doorsteps here in the West, economic crises, long overdue civil unrest, and so much more. Thank you to Kristi for showing another way.....just letting the grief come. I've been able to do that to some extent with the loss of all the wild places in California, Oregon, Washington and across the Mountain West that have been our solace for 30+ years, but it seems never-ending. We are navigating such interesting times...on a good day, I believe that we as a species will come out of this with some wisdom and elevated consciousness. When the sky is dark and apocalyptic orange at noon, it's a little more challenging to have faith and hope. I join the many others here that fully expect you to defy the odds with what you elsewhere called "grace and gumption". You set the example for the rest of us....love you, miss you, and hope to get to see you and finally meet Kristi (!) in the not-too-distant future. It is a continuing honor and delight to walk these paths with you. Plus, there are good cocktails :).

Reading (and feeling) your words, Dave, I feel like I too am already getting something deep out of your time with Reed. Just picturing you with all your wry, bemused energy out in the dirt with a kid makes me smile. I am profoundly hopeful that your time with him ribbons forward for many years. And regardless of how much or little is yet to come, know that your wisdom and laughter have already suffused the world in ways that will persist as doggedly as the chemicals you have spent your life protecting us against. Much Love, Stitz

This update. Oh my gosh. I was riveted. I'm so sorry for the heavy news in the middle of it. Thank you for the reminders of what you, Kristi and your family are grappling with, and to appreciate every single moment. We love you guys and are thinking of you. And all the more reason for us to hope that the pandemic and fires cease so we can figure out how to see each other sometime soon!

Love you Dave and Kristi. There is Never enough time. Cherish every minute of it. Hold your family close. I know you do live every minute of life and it’s been a good one. Soon the skies will clear and you can start proving that they were wrong about your lifespan. We are all going to die, as my daddy told me “there is only one way out of this world”. But most of us do not have a timeline. Hope your time does include time with us! L’chaim !

Sending love and a beautiful fall day from MN. I'm glad you have not had fire close to you! The sun is orange here and it saddens my innards to think about why. I know several people on low dose chemo and if you didnt know they were taking it, you couldn't tell--no impact to every day life, it seems. You are full of grace, it shows.. And if you are swearing to the sky at times, that's ok too. I wish you all the best and hope to run into you again sometime!
