Dave’s Story

Site created on January 7, 2019

Hello all-

We are so thankful for everyone's love and support! Dave was recently diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma/NSCLC. He started treatment 12/27/18 and will be undergoing radiation (daily Monday-Friday) and chemotherapy (once a week) for 6 weeks ending 2/8/19. He is being treated at BIDMC. After radiation and chemotherapy, he will allow his body to regain strength and recover from the treatment. As of now, he is planned to have surgery to remove the tumor and lymph node (lobectomy) in Mid March/April.   We are staying strong and hopeful as we begin Dave's journey towards a cure. We are using this website to keep family and friends updated on his treatment. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Your texts, calls, and e-mails have been our lifeline during this more difficult time. We love you all! XO Dave, Caroline & Eve

Newest Update

Journal entry by Caroline Ogilvy

Dave is starting his first full week of Radiation Monday- Friday this week. Due to the holiday it has been a gradual start. He goes to Radiation daily at 7:45AM at BIDMC and often goes to work afterward. Radiation has been pretty straight forward- 3-5 minute procedure. Radiation is cumulative- so he may feel symptoms more intensely towards the end of the 6 weeks.
Chemotherapy has been another story- he is receiving Chemo at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA). Medications are through an IV drip. It is more time consuming- as medications need to be administered at a rate he can tolerate. Typically we are there for 4 hours- we hope this process becomes more efficient. Two chemos down, 4 to go. So far no major side effects. More fatigue only.
Dave's appetite has been healthy- which has been a good sign! Keeping his weight stable is a goal for him. He is sleeping well and prioritizing good sleep hygiene. He is also focusing on staying healthy and keeping germs away.

We have been overwhelmed by all the generous gift cards and food we have received. It has made the nightly meal prep one less thing to think about. The outpouring of support has warmed our hearts.

EV is keeping up her end of the bargain and giving us lots of hugs and kisses through the days:)

XO
