Journal entry by Kris Patrow-Ogle

FROM GUEST AUTHOR, DAVE OGLE ❤️  These are 3 of the people who saved my life. Kris my wife and EMTs Joe and Tommy. From the moment I had a cardiac arrest in July, everything  had to occur  quickly, correctly and in a  specific order for me to survive. They call it “the chain of survival.” Starting with  calling 911, then CPR which my wife learned in a class at work. She kept me alive. Then Joe and Tommy arrived and jumped in - having had special training on the specific type of cardiac arrest I was in. This is rare for them to be trained in this. They shocked me 3 times with the AED. The next link in the chain. Then more with their cardiac monitor. During this they called the U of M  doctor and medical  professor who is writing a book on treatment for this type of arrest, called “Ecmo.” I can’t explain what it means. During the ambulance ride they continued to treat me, keeping me alive with “basic and advanced medical treatment, the next link. Until they got me to the U of M, where Doctor Demetris Yannopoulos, MD  cardiologist was waiting for me at the door providing the final link “advanced life support and post arrest care.” If any of these links hadn’t occurred correctly and in order I wouldn’t have survived. The percentage of people who recover from this is very low.
Today I had lunch with my heroes. I will forever be grateful for the care they gave me. Thanks to them and everyone who has helped me return.
