Darwin’s Story

Site created on January 10, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Darwin is at KU Med, and is scheduled for surgery on Friday morning, 1/11/19, at 8:00 am.  The doctor hopes to put in a device that should stabilize the aneurysm at the base of Darwin's brain, and help prevent future strokes.  Darwin will be one of the first in the country to have this done!  We will post updates here.  Feel free to share this site with friends that you know might be interested.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

We just wanted to remind everyone that the Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Darwin is fast approaching.  It will be Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at the Rock Creek Lodge and Venue, 6832 NW 40th St., Towanda, Kansas.   We are inviting all guests to stay after the service for a pie reception (Darwin's favorite dessert) where there will be a limited "open mic" time for your own special Darwin stories.  Please keep stories to 5 minutes or less so that others have a chance to share.  To keep everyone safe, masks are encouraged at the service.  The service will be live-streamed on the Facebook page of First Southern Baptist Church of El Dorado, KS for any who can't make it, or would prefer not to due to health reasons.  Click on the link below to join.

There will be a burial service at Kalida Cemetery in Yates Center where Darwin's ashes  will be laid to rest on Friday, April 9 at 4 p.m.  Darwin's family will be there and any of you in that area are welcome to join us.

We have added another memorial fund for those who are interested in helping Caleb with future expenses for education or work-related training.  Gifts can be made out to Caleb Deets Educational Fund  and mailed to the Yates Center Elevator, PO Box 324, Yates Center, KS  66783.

Our family has enjoyed meeting many of Darwin's friends and we look forward to celebrating his life, though shorter than we had hoped, with many  friends and family on April 10.  We are so grateful for all the love and care we have received from you all!  Thank you!
