Hi everyone. 

It has been a really challenging couple of days. 

Darrel has had a few different episodes with breathing difficulties and cardiac abnormalities. He bounced back each time because he is just so incredibly tough. 

Today he had some tests to determine what the cause of these issues may be. What was found was advancement of his disease and some other structural abnormalities which have changed the course of things. 

We all had a tough meeting today with his doctors , and the decision was made that there was nothing to be gained from continuing cancer chemotherapy. 

The decision has been made to make Darrel comfort care. Darrel was able to participate in the conversation , and ultimately he made the decision. 

The doctors , nurses , nurse practitioners , respiratory therapists, and everyone else at the James are so incredible. They have taken such great care of Darrel and are a large part of the reason he has done so well.  I will never forget how amazing everyone here is !

This is a very tough thing to accept , but i am trying so hard to count the blessings. 
I am so glad that Darrel is alert , communicating, and able to participate in his care and make these tough decisions for himself. I am so thankful that I have been able to say the things that I wanted to say to him , know he understands , and hear the things he had to say to me. 

I am so very thankful that he is able to be comfortable and spend time with his family. 

I have learned just how many people love Darrel. It is a testiment to the amazing and caring person that he is. I am so lucky to have him in my life. He feels all of your love , prayers , and well wishes , and I know they have fueled him through this really difficult journey he has been on. 

Please continue to pray and offer yoor love and support to this incredible man and his incredible family.
