The final update...
One of Dan's wishes was for his ashes to be spread in Australia, where he was an exchange student in high school. Australia was a very special place to Dan, and I now know why! The girls and I traveled to Australia in December. While in Sydney we hiked to the most amazing beach and fresh water swimming hole in the Royal National Park, Curracurrang. Dan's Australian sister Melinda, husband Paul, two sons Brodie and Dylan, best friend Rikki and wife Carissa joined the girls and I on this beautiful journey. I spread Dan's ashes where the fresh water stream and ocean water met, Taylor placed him on the highest rock she was able to walk to along side the ocean and Mady sprinkled him in the stream just beyond the beautiful fresh water pool and waterfall. Such a beautiful day to honor the wishes of an amazing man.
Melinda hosted a gathering of family and friends to meet the girls and I, we celebrated Dan, shared many stories, laughs and tears. It was such an honor to get to know people that Dan called friends and family, who he loved and cared about. I now understand why he loved Australia as much as he did, not only is the country stunningly beautiful, but the people are as well! A piece of our hearts is forever in Australia!
