Newest Update

Journal entry by Brad Locke

I am long overdue to provide an update so apologies for the delay.  Dad has been in rehab for about 5 1/2 weeks now.  The first few weeks saw some nice steady progress in terms of increases in strength and weight gain.  In the last week and a half he had a couple setbacks.  So it is one of those situations where you take two steps forward and one step back.  But he is determined to push through, get out of that place and get home!

He still has the feeding tube and continues to do swallow therapy with the goal to eventually remove so he can get back to eating and drinking.  It is likely in the next week or so they will put in a permanent feeding tube and that will give him more mobility until it can be removed completely.  The feeding line is super annoying as you'd expect.

The setback this past week was he picked up a C diff infection which has knocked the wind from his sails.  He started a strong antibiotic to address and today is starting to feel some relief.  He's hanging tough through this and ready to get back into the therapy room to lift weights as soon as he can!

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.  This has lasted far longer than he or any of us expected so the best help you can provide is to wish him well, give him a call or send a note.  Message me if you need his number.
