Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

For over 2 years now I have been seen by many doctors and have had just about every test imaginable. Besides all the doctor's offices I've been to, I have been seen at North Memorial Hospital, North Memorial Cancer Center, U of M Hospital and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  For 2 years I have had the doctors totally confused and for the most part unable to diagnose what was going on with me.

Finally, last June I was diagnosed with a cancer called Multiple Myeloma. I would need to have chemo therapy and a stem cell transplant. I started chemo therapy July 3, 2017. But besides the cancer, I also had some symptoms that could not be explained as cancer related. Recently additional biopsies that were done confirmed another problem call Amyloidosis. Amyloidosis is similar to the cancer, but harder to treat. With both the Multiple Myeloma and the Amyloidosis there is no cure. The goal is long term management.

There have been many setbacks along the way, but I have finally been approved for a stem cell transplant. I will be admitted to the U of M Hospital on Thursday March 29 for surgery and a dose of chemo. This will be the start of the transplant process that will take several months to complete. During this time Sue and I will have lots of things we will be dealing with and will do our best to post updates to keep everyone informed on my progress.

We're both looking forward to a successful transplant and having a great summer with family and friends!

Newest Update

Journal entry by DANIEL KELLY

Met with my transplant doctor yesterday to go over the bone marrow biopsy and other tests that were done last week. He said the results showed I am in total remission! No cancer cells showed up in the biopsy. So the game plan is for me just to continue with my recovery for now.

Soon my care will be transferred back to North Memorial Cancer Center. I will be put on a lose dose chemo drug probably for the rest of my life or until the cancer comes back. But the good news is I should be able to have a great summer!!

So this will be my final post! It has been a long journey to get to this point. I still have to get through a couple of months of recovery, but I'm planning on things getting back to normal and many good years ahead!

Thanks for all the support you have given me!!
