Daniel’s Story

Site created on March 29, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragemeent.

On 2/16/2018, Daniel tested positive for liver cancer; 2/28/2018 it was determined after having an MRI, that his cancer was end-stage cancer and was inoperable.  His options to prolong the time he has was either chemotherapy or a one shot radiation injection.  He chose the radiation option which he had done on 3/26/2018.

His condition continues to worsen and Friday 4/27/2018 he was admitted to the hospital for dehydration.

We are hoping to get home where he will go on Hospice, but the struggle will be to get him stable enough to get released.  Right now his diaretics have been stopped due to the imbalance in his system they have caused.  As a result, his fluid build-up (due to his liver not functioning) has become a problem.  In an effort to keep him comfortable, this morning he had a tube inserted into his abdomen so fluids can be drained off on a regular basis.  Then we can drain his fluids ourselves as needed when we get back home.

This afternoon they will address his ammonia levels which have kept increasing.  These need to be lowered in order for him to think clearly.

Journal entry by Mary Bjerke

It’s all over and Daniel is at rest; he passed away at about 11:30 this morning.

I’m glad it happened as fast as it did, for his sake, but only 3 months from when we first found out to now - it’s a lot to take in.

The visitation will be this Saturday, May 19th at 2:00 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2010 Elm St N, Fargo, followed by the funeral at 3:00.

Arrangements are being handled by Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, www.hansonrunsvold.com.
