Danielle’s Story

Site created on April 30, 2019

On Sunday April 28, 2019 our dear friend, wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and kick-butt nurse Danielle experienced a stroke in her brain stem.  More specifically, she had an acute occlusion in the right medullary vertebral artery caused by a dissection leading to the stroke.

This site was created to allow folks to follow her recovery and to help organize all the amazing offers for help we have  had thus far.  :)

Updates will be added as time passes and we invite you to keep up on her recovery journey.  Thank you for the love and support, it means the world to Danielle and her family!

Journal entry by Heidi zens

Last weekend, there was a semi-covert operation to audit the status of home life for Danielle.  The findings:  recovery is going very well. So well, in fact, that the only way to handle the good news was with having way too much fun with family and make a cameo appearance at Church!

Danni and Jim were gracious enough to welcome some visitors for the weekend.  Danielle’s sister, niece and nephew came for a quick weekend visit and were able to observe Danni in her natural habitat and we were thrilled to find her able to do 95%+ of tasks with complete independence!  For now, Danielle cannot drive so has received her shiny new red temporary handicap parking permit.  She was able to go up the straight flight of stairs (16 total) to the 2nd floor of her home without help, shower and get dressed/ready, get in and out of bed, go outside, make food, clean up, read, write, walk with a walker (for stability as balance is still tricky), and more!  Only a couple of headaches and a little dizziness occurred during the observation period.  Naps have added much help to Danielle’s daily regimen...and are kind of like a super power boost for her.

The ongoing recovery will include outpatient therapy (occupational, physical and higher cognitive) to get her back into fighting shape for reentering her “new normal” life.

Thanks for checking in and continuing to keep The Sowinski Family in your thoughts and prayers.  Lastly,  to all that have volunteered or donated their time, meals, gift cards and love...this could not have been pulled off without you.  Your love is such a beautiful gift and the acts of kindness mean more to Danielle than she can ever fully express.  💌
