Newest Update

Journal entry by Danielle and Jake Detmers

Hi friends and family,

I’ve been meaning to update you all for days on Dani’s mastectomy recovery and the treatment plan her oncologist has laid out for her. It is an overwhelming plan, to say the least, and your prayers support in the next few months are wanted, needed, and appreciated.

Dani is still recovering from her mastectomy, as you can imagine, but got her drainage tube removed and has stayed infection free. Which is a wonderful relief! She was nervous about the infection returning and did not want to have to go into surgery a third time. Despite recovering “well”, Dani is still feeling the effects of such a major surgery and is experiencing soreness, shooting pains, and overall discomfort as her body tries to readjust, rebuild, and reconnect the best it can.

In the midst of all of that, Dani met with her oncologist last week to discuss her post-surgery treatment plan.

This week, she will go in for another small procedure at one of the hospitals here in town to get a port put into her chest. They will use the port to administer her Chemotherapy.

She will begin chemo this week and will receive chemotherapy once a week for 12 weeks. Each session will take about 5 hours to administer.

After those 12 weeks, Dani will return once every 3 weeks for an entire year to receive an IV drip of a drug called Herceptin.

She will then take a chemo pill for the next 5 years.

They do believe she will lose her hair during the next 12 weeks and will most likely be sick from her chemotherapy sessions. The next 3 months will be daunting, scary, and overwhelming but we also believe they will be healing and life-saving.

Dani has an amazing outlook on it all and will absolutely be a champion in the coming months, but the fear, exhaustion, questions, anxiety, and everything else that comes with the word “cancer” is taking its toll. Please be in prayer for her mind as she not only battles this physically, but emotionally as well. Prayers that her body and mind remain strong and that she is entirely reinforced by the Holy Spirit, who truly sustains us and breathes life into our souls.

Thank you for your prayers and support 💗
